Corporate History

RECOF was established in 1987 when M&A was just beginning to gain attention in Japan. It has been proposing and executing countless M&A projects of all sizes inside and outside Japan ever since,   providing services to support our client companies' needs to realize their management strategies. RECOF has also been involved in a variety of M&A-related undertakings for the development of M&A activities in Japan.

Development Activities to promote the M&A market (excerpts)
1987 RECOF Office Co., Ltd. (now RECOF Corporation) established in December.  
1993   Took part in setting up Japan Investment Support Service Co., Ltd. (FIND),a quasi-government organization affiliated with MITI and MOF
1994   In charge of the Japanese presentation on M&A at the US-JAPAN Investment Workgroup at the US-Japan Framework Talks on Bilateral Trade
1995 First edition of the M&A trade journal MARR published in January.  
1997   Participated in the "M&A Market Creation Talks" hosted by MITI.
Participated as a committee member in the "M&A OTC Market Research Group" hosted by MITI.
1998   Participated as a committee member in the “M&A Meeting Workgroup” hosted by MITI.
1999   Participated as a committee member in the "MBO Research Group" hosted by MITI.
Participates as a committee member in the "Investment Valuation Research Group" hosted by MITI.
2000 Group companies merged to form RECOF Corporation in July.
Established in-house RE Network Company to run MARRNET, to support M&A operations for SMEs in July.
Participated as a committee member in the review committee for the "investigation into the actual state of M&A among SMEs" by the Japan Small and Medium Enterprise Corporation.
2001 Entered into a business tie-up with Shanghai Industrial Rights and Trade Center in Shanghai, an M&A brokerage run by Chinese government authorities in November. Participated as a committee member in the "General Research Committee on Fostering and Creating a Management Support Industry" hosted by the Social Economics Productivity Headquarters (under the METI).
Participated as a member in the "Research Conference on Structural Changes and Corporate Groups in the Japanese Economy" hosted by the Japan Fair Trade Commission.
2002 Shanghai Office opened in July Participated as a committee member in the “MBO Research Conference” (2nd Meeting) hosted by METI.
2003   Participated as a committee member in the "M&A Research Conference" hosted by the Cabinet Office General Research Group on the Economy and Society.
Participated as a committee member in the "Research Conference on an Appropriate Organizational Realignment Tax System" hosted by METI.
2004 Moved the headquarters in May (from Hirakawa-cho, Chiyoda-ku to Kojimachi, Chiyoda-ku). Participated as a committee member in the "Research Group on Corporate Value" hosted by METI.
2005 Hirokazu Moriyama Office, which offers consulting services on corporate valuation, became RECOF's wholly-owned subsidiary in March.
Established in-house the "Corporate Value Research Lab" providing consulting services to maximize corporate value in April.
Officially joined Global M&A, a partnership of independent M&A firms.
Took part in setting up the "M&A Forum," proposed in the interim report of the "M&A Research Conference" by the Cabinet Office General Research Group on the Economy and Society.
2006 Participated as a panelist in the mini-symposium "M&A and the Role of the Law" hosted by the Supreme Court Legal Research Office.
2007   Participated as a Selection Committee Member in the M&A Forum.
Sponsored the Global M&A Kyoto Conference
2008 From April the division in charge of the M&A database and monthly magazine "MARR" is split off and becomes the independent company [RECOF DATA Corporation].
